Poway, calling itself "The City in the Country," is a thriving bedroom community that has a rich rustic charm and the lowest crime rate in San Diego County. Neighborhoods are considered suburban but much of the land surrounding homes is open country. Lots are large in size, accommodating large homes.

Poway school district is exceptional, ranking in California’s 90th
percentile, and draws families to settle in this quaint hillside city.
Schools in the district are accustomed to getting “distinguished” awards
and are monitored to uphold district standards, making education a top
priority in this family city.
New additions to the
city include The Poway Center for the Performing Arts and a new
state-of-the art library. Recreation is centered around Lake Poway and
the Blue Sky Ecological Reserve with fishing, boating and hiking.
Poway is centrally located on I-15, just 20 miles northeast of Downtown San Diego and is a thriving business center. Poway was rated as the #6 ranked city for business growth in California by Outlook Magazine. The South Poway Business Park, just off I-15 incorporates 313 businesses and just under 12,000 employees. Hotel
plans are underway for extended stay facilities and conference halls for
local business, which will also bring restaurants to the area. What was
once just industrial has become commercial making way for large-scale
retail to locate in the park. Poway has a "Road to Success" program that
will encourage retail revitalization in the four districts of the city.
An outdated strip mall has already been converted to meet today’s
shopping standards while keeping with the design of Poway’s small-town
charm.
